Bone Grafting

Rebuilding lost bone volume to prepare your jaw for implants, or to restore structure after tooth loss, injury, or disease.

What Is Bone Grafting?

Rebuilding a Healthy Foundation

Bone grafting adds volume and density to areas of the jaw where bone has been lost or was never fully developed. The graft material acts as a scaffold, encouraging your body to grow new, healthy bone in its place over time.

This is most often needed to create a solid foundation for a dental implant, since implants need enough surrounding bone to properly anchor in place.

Why Bone Grafting?

Common Reasons It's Needed

Bone Loss After Tooth Loss

Once a tooth is gone, the jawbone beneath it naturally begins to shrink without the stimulation of a tooth root.

Preparing for Implants

Implants need a certain amount of healthy bone to anchor into. Grafting builds up that foundation before placement.

Gum Disease

Advanced periodontal disease can break down the bone that supports your teeth, sometimes requiring grafting to rebuild it.

Types of Bone Grafting

A Few Common Approaches

Socket Preservation

Done at the time of an extraction to fill the empty socket, helping preserve the shape and volume of the jawbone as it heals.

Ridge Augmentation

Rebuilds the width or height of the jaw ridge after bone has already been lost, often to prepare for an implant.

Sinus Lift

Adds bone beneath the sinus in the upper jaw, creating enough height for an implant when the sinus sits too close to the jawbone.

What to Expect?

The Bone Grafting Process

01

Consultation & Imaging

We evaluate your bone structure with imaging to determine how much volume is needed and the best grafting approach.

02

The Procedure

Graft material is placed at the treatment site. You're monitored continuously throughout for comfort and safety, with anesthesia options available.

03

Healing & Integration

Over the following months, your own bone grows in and around the graft, creating a solid foundation for future treatment.
